A preprint is an early draft or manuscript shared by a researcher in a preprint repository or dedicated channel outside of a specific journal. It’s becoming more popular for authors to share their articles in this way before submitting them to a journal, and you should be able to accept a manuscript for publication even if it’s already been shared in a preprint repository.
